We are showing Shun Kazakami's sneak preview to the coming international collaboration doujinshi "Neko-Mimi Project Vol.1", which is planned to be released from Akiba Angels in mid January. If you are a creator, "Neko-Mimi Project Vol.1" will have many other tutorials just like this one, which is very useful for starting out how to draw Japanese style anime or comics.
First, draw rough image.
I use 0.2mm and 0.3mm sharp pencils.
This capture shows the rough image being transferred onto PC.
This is another idea I came up with. Legs were added.
Based on the previous rough image, the style for final image has been set.
From here, I start tracing with pen.

Then, clean up on PC. I directly draw by using tablet.
Lay the rough image as under layer and trace with pen.
I use Photoshop CS. Shortcuts such as Pen tool (B) and Eraser tool (E) comes very handy.
I use them one after another.
This is a long process. I need to take small breaks between these procedures.
Main line has been drawn.
Now, start coloring.
Use different layers depend on each color.
Start with pale colors, and gradually lay thick colors over them.
I mainly color my work with "Anime style", but use blush here and there to create the mild touch. This is the most fun part of all.

Coloring has been completed. At the end, I experimented with the color of her hair. The character is done. As the final process, background and surrounding effects are added.
After completing the whole project, I look at it for a while. Have a tea and relax.
