Exclusive Interview with Ryohei Hase

Ryohei Hase's art features in monstrous creatures, and are pretty grotesque. Although, he illustrates some of these characters with somewhat affectionate as there is no violence involved. Each monster seems to have their own characteristics and personality as you can see them on his website, Crazy Animals. Animation project he made while he was a student, is called "Melancory". It really expresses the charm of the monster.

Q1:What kind of child were you when you were small?
A1: I was a rough child. If I had a child, I wouldn't want me.

Q2: What made you decide to pursue the current career?
A2: I wasn't particularly good artist, but somehow I decided to go to Art school. (When I think back, I think I just didn't want to study) Since then, I kept drawing, and here I am now.

Q3: What are the best characteristics of your drawing?
A3: I want my work to have some contrary elements. Such as, my characters are grotesque, but somewhat beautiful. They are sometimes scary but somewhat adorable. People’s impression toward my work depends on how they look at it.
